Friends in Need:
Friends in Need was organized in
August 2001 to reach out and share the gospel with the homeless in the Ann
Arbor/Ypsilanti communities.
We now serve the Lord in this ministry in the following
ways:
Every Sunday morning we gather at the St. Andrew's Breakfast Program in downtown
Ann Arbor to encourage and develop relationships with people struggling in many
ways--homelessness, drug/alcohol addiction and recovery, and financial
difficulties. With our bus ministry we invite people to come and worship with
us. Our hope is that by showing the love of Jesus, they will come to know Jesus
as their Lord and Savior by hearing the infallible Word of God.
Our guests are invited to attend a Sunday School class, "Life Applications"
where they are taught how to apply the truths of God's Word to their life. After
Praise & Worship service, we have lunch together and a time of fellowship. This
is a great opportunity to expound on what was taught during worship service and
to get to know our guests more intimately in order to better serve them.
Additionally, on the first Sunday of the month, we
prepare and serve dinner for approximately 100 people at Delonis Center, the
Washtenaw County shelter located in downtown Ann Arbor. This community meal is
open to anyone who has a need. One does not have to be homeless to enjoy a hot
meal. Many of the guests have places to live, but do not have enough money left
over for food after rent and other bills are paid.
With blessings from our Lord, some have moved into apartments and the ministry
has expanded to provide transportation to and from church on Sundays and
Wednesdays.
If you are interested in serving the Lord in this
ministry on a regular basis, semi-regular basis, or just once, please contact
Mary Mohrbach at Calvary Bible Church.
(See contact information below.)
It is such a tremendous blessing to see how God has
worked in this ministry.
All glory and praise to Him!!
