Verse 14 exhorts us to “hold firmly to the faith we profess.” In your own words, what does this mean?
When the Bible talks about “faith” it can mean two different things. One is our personal belief in Christ (“our faith”). The second is the body of doctrine that God’s word teaches and all Christians believe (“the faith”). In this verse, both are implied. “holding firmly” refers to personal belief and “we profess” indicates a public affirmation of the Christian faith. Why are both of these aspects of faith important?
