Calvary Classes Resume on January 21

The break for Calvary Classes continues next Sunday. Children’s and Adult Calvary Classes resume this Sunday, January 21. These classes are offered for adults:

  • Ephesians taught by Jeff Hatto. Study the New Testament book of Ephesians. This class will meet in room 233.

  • Fostering an Atmosphere of Honor in our Homes taught by Melanie Johnson. This class is for women only. We will read the book Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes…in You and Your Kids! by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller. “For every form of selfishness [anger, impatience, manipulation, arguing] in a family, there’s an honor-based solution [celebrating differences, doing more than is expected, being a peacemaker, servanthood].” In class, we will discuss the teaching in the book and work on practical application. Let’s trust the Lord together for growth in ourselves and our children! Amazon has a print version for $12 and a kindle version for $5.99. CBD has an ebook version for $5.99. Let Melanie know if you would like her to order you a print version.

  • How Calvary Bible Church Helps You Grow taught by Pastor Brian. This class is required for new members so plan to take it if you are a new member or are considering church membership. This class will meet in room 133.

NEW Calvary Classes Start on Sunday, September 10

Our next section of Calvary Classes for children, teens, and adults starts on September 10.

Adults will meet in the chapel for a combined class led by Pastor Brian titled, “How to Live a Peacefully Productive Life.”

Does thinking about your life make you feel anxious? tired? overwhelmed? When you wake up in the morning, do you have to drag yourself out of bed to face your responsibilities or do you feel pulled like a magnet out of bed, energized to welcome the opportunities? Is your mind like a game of whack-a-mole, with reminders of one crisis after another popping up to distract you from what you really need to do?

If any or all of these things are true, you should take this course. This course will teach you:

  • how to live without being constantly distracted by what you need to remember (or what you’ve already missed because you forgot).
  • how to focus on what is important instead of getting distracted by what is urgent
  • how to be productive as an employee while also meeting the demands of family, church, and other responsibilities.

Pastor Brian will not only tell you how to handle "stuff", he will show you step-by-step, in detail, how he does it.

This class meets at 9 a.m. every Sunday, starting Sunday, September 10 in the chapel.

Who needs this course?

  • Anyone who feels frustrated by the space between what you want to do with your life and what you’re doing with your life.
  • Anyone who feels overwhelmed by the amount of mail, texts, emails, memos, and other bits of information coming into your life that you feel responsible for.
  • Anyone who wants to grow in your faith or serve the Lord in a ministry but can’t seem to find the time for it in an over-scheduled life.
  • Anyone who can’t sleep at night because you have so many things on your mind that are calling to you, trying to get your attention.
  • Anyone who has a disorganized and disheveled space in your life--an office, a desk, garage, basement, attic, etc. that some federal department might label a disaster area.
  • Anyone who thinks life is going too fast already. If the idea of being “more productive” scares you because you’re already going faster than you want to, this course is for you because it will teach you how to get more done without pushing yourself harder. That’s why it’s called a “peacefully productive” life.

This class meets at 9 a.m. every Sunday, starting Sunday, September 10 in the chapel.

New Calvary Classes Start May 15

A new set of Calvary Classes will begin on Sunday, May 15. These classes will be offered:

  • James. This class, taught by Jeff Hatto, will meet in room 235/237 and will study the New Testament book of James. This book was written by James, the half-brother of our Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to the Bible, we will be using a study guide authored by John MacArthur. The study guide is available on his website for the cost of $10. It is worth every penny. Just go to www.gty.org to order your copy for the Calvary Class. There will be a few additional copies in the class room for our guests and we are also allowed to copy certain portions of the materials, so those copies will also be available. Shad Bean will be assisting Jeff with the class and we both hope everyone available comes and enjoys the Bible study.
  • Christianity: What’s It All About? This class, taught by Blake Hasselbring, will meet in room 233 and will help you explore what the Bible says about our relationship with God and how we can know Him personally. It is open to new believers and anyone else who would like to know more about Christianity.
  • When God Doesn’t Fix It. This class is for women only. It will be led by Jenny Hasselbring and Paula Smith and will meet in room 137. Together you will read and discuss Christian recording artist Laura Story’s book When God Doesn’t Fix It: Lessons You Never Wanted to Learn, Truths You Can’t Live Without. Laura shares openly about the raw emotions and crisis of faith she experienced when her life was changed forever by a diagnosis and when God didn’t answer her prayers the way she wanted. Through her story, we will learn how we can find joy and healing in Christ even when our difficult circumstances don’t change. This will be a very practical, application-oriented study, requiring you to read a portion of the book each week on your own in preparation for our discussions on Sunday morning. You can purchase the book through Amazon here: http://amzn.to/1MIrDJB.

New Calvary Classes Start January 24

After our break for Christmas and the New Year’s holiday, Calvary Classes for children, teens, and adults will resume on Sunday, January 24 at 9 a.m. The following classes will be offered for adults:

  • Lead Like Jesus taught by Jeff Hatto

Come and attend a Calvary Class centered on the servant leadership methods used by Jesus. The class goal is to use the Bible and a book entitled Lead Like Jesus by Ken Blanchard & Phil Hodges to teach that, by modeling Jesus’s leadership methods, we have great access to the wisdom of the LORD. This class is about Jesus. Each week we will learn about Jesus. During our 14 weeks together we will support each other as we all grow in the love of Jesus. We will discuss the concept that leadership is the process of influencing the thinking, behavior or development of someone else. Please set aside thoughts like, well, this class is about leadership and I don’t lead at my work, so this is not for me or I’m still going to school, so I don’t really see this as being important for me or I’m a mom and I don’t really need to study about leadership. I assure everyone, this is worth your time and effort. I just really want to tell everyone that this book has strengthened my spiritual walk and helped draw me closer to Jesus. So, regardless if you are new in your walk with Christ or you are a long-time believer in Christ, this class is for you. Come get set on fire for Christ. Come and prepare your heart for the day’s worship. Come and make new friends at Calvary Bible Church.

  • Systematic Theology 2 taught by Tim Inman

To get the most out of this class, plan to read Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem. Tim will briefly overview and outline one chapter each week, then spend the most of the class period on the discussion questions at the end of the chapter.
